Artemis Ocean Racing Qualifies for Vendée Globe

Jonny Malbon has today obtained his ticket for the Vendée Globe after having the 4,000 mile qualifier he completed earlier this month rubber-stamped by the Vendée Globe committee. Taking position 27 on the start line in Les Sables d'Olonne, Jonny and Artemis Ocean Racing II finally completed the required qualification on September 3rd 2008 after a double transatlantic crossing that saw Malbon contend with ferocious winds and heavy seas in the North Atlantic.

Artemis Ocean Racing II, skippered by British solo sailor Jonny Malbon, has completed the qualification requirements for the Vendée Globe 2008, the epic round the world yacht race that starts in November.

POS 49.10.96N 011.32.78W Wind 30 knots from 301 Boat Speed 14 knots Heading 83 250 miles to go to the end of my qualification. In about 18 hours time I should pass the longitude of 005W and bring to an end my Vendee qualification passage.

POS 51.41.68N 028.30.12W Wind 21 knots from 262 Boat Speed 15 knots Heading 109 A much better day for me. Although I did fall asleep early this morning and woke up to find the boat only doing seven knots which was very annoying.
